Every year on December 1st, the world comes together to observe World AIDS Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about HIV/AIDS, showing support for people living with the virus, and remembering those who have lost their lives to AIDS-related illnesses. This year, Berachah Community Clinic, Asaba, in collaboration with its partners, is taking meaningful steps to move beyond rhetoric and actively contribute to the fight against HIV/AIDS under the theme: “Take the rights path: My health, my right!”
Our Commitment to Action
In alignment with the global call for an AIDS-free generation and sustainable HIV response, Berachah Community Clinic is implementing a series of impactful initiatives:
- Sensitisation Programme in a Tertiary Institution & Youth Empowerment
- We recognize that young people are key to ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Our sensitisation programme in a tertiary institution will educate students on prevention, treatment, and rights related to HIV/AIDS.
- Through the distribution of health education materials, we aim to empower youths with the right knowledge and encourage positive health-seeking behaviors.
- Formation of Health Clubs
- Health clubs will be established in institutions and communities to serve as platforms for peer education, open discussions, and sustained awareness on sexual health and HIV/AIDS prevention.
- HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT)
- Knowing one’s status is a crucial step in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Free and confidential HIV testing and counselling services will be provided to individuals to promote early diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
- Monitoring and Evaluation
- To ensure effectiveness and impact, regular supervisory visits and examination of records will be carried out. This will help in assessing progress and making necessary improvements in our intervention strategies.
Why This Matters
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), protecting everyone’s right to health and reducing new HIV infections are essential to achieving an AIDS-free generation. At Berachah Community Clinic, we believe that access to accurate information, healthcare, and support can empower individuals to take control of their health and well-being. Through our initiatives, we aim to bridge gaps in knowledge, increase accessibility to healthcare services, and contribute meaningfully to ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Join us as we take action this World AIDS Day. Together, we can make a difference and move closer to a world free from AIDS.
